If you’re reading this, then chances are you’ve been stressed. And if you haven’t for some reason (congratulations for making this long without getting stressed), you’ll absolutely be stressed at some point in your life. It’s natural, it happens to everyone. Believe it or not, most people can’t actually tell when they’re emotionally stressed. I figured that I would highlight a few telltale signs that can help you make heads or tails of when you’re emotionally stressed.
You Feel Alone
Picture it: you’re at a party, or at a get together or a sporting event. You’re surrounded by dozens or tens of thousands of people. They’re cheering, smiling, laughing and having a great time. Meanwhile, you’re stuck somewhere in the middle of all of the chaos feeling like you’re the only person in the entire planet, or at least in the immediate area. Maybe you’re stressed by work or your relationship, whatever the reason, you feel like you’re abandoned. This isn’t true. Get out there and try to connect with people that can make you feel better. Family, friends, partners, or even support groups. Loneliness can hurt, but you’re never truly alone.
You know that you’re emotionally stressed when you’re very irritable. Obviously, everyone gets angry, but usually only when they have a good reason. When you’re emotionally stressed, even the slightest annoyances or inconveniences get you riled up. This leads to unnecessary and completely avoidable arguments with even the closest of friends and family. One of the best ways to get past your irritability is by trying out various relaxation techniques. You can look into yoga or other meditation practices.
If you’re stressed out in your life, then you’ll probably find yourself to be unhappy. You’ll experience a bevy of low moods throughout your day. The reason for this is because you’re so focused on the stressful aspects of your life that you can’t find time to appreciate much else. You become unhappy and find yourself in a rut. Believe it or not, the simplest way of escaping the feeling of unhappiness is by simply speaking about your issues, whether it’s with a professional or a friend or family member. Speak out, you’ll feel much better. It won’t necessarily completely resolve the situation, but it will help.
To stress is human. It’s impossible to completely avoid stress, but it is very possible to overcome the stressors in your life. Look for these signs and seek assistance if you feel that your quality of life and mental health are taking a hit because of stress. Good luck!
